For this final series I wanted to re-visit a project I had done perviously with my family and this "brown paper bag". At that time it was more or less about how there was always someone there you didn't want to be there. In this series I wanted to project my dislike for what had been done to my new little sister. I used her as a stand in for my younger self. Tom could be taken to be my own father, while my mom can be represented as Erica's mother; although never in the same image. I used this as an outlet with my frustration on how child are shield from things right in front of them. The are not explain, making these actions worse. Of course, I portrayed this a little extreme, but I feel like I was successful in in my execution.

A2:
I was directly responding to the image of "Miss N." by Gertrude Kasebier in these images. I feel as though I tried to portray the artist within ourselves feel that Kasebier captures as well as the mystery that is left when viewing most of Kasebier's work. I played off the sensual pose that is used, holding the vase but removed the faces of my female family members. I wished to play on the fact of being so similar while at the same time so different. By posing all three of us in similar fashion and causing the plane of focus to go to the vase I hoped to make the view see the subtle differences; the skin texture, the body size, the vase size, the slouch, the way we hold a handle, etc.

Assignment 1 Artist Statement
Jessica Selmser
In our project “The Real Florida” I would like to show Florida's inner forests, specifically I would like to shoot in Ocala, but since I couldn't get to Ocala I wanted to go with less traveled paths and waterways that gave the feeling of the inner Florida lands. I tried to focus these images on a small objects, rather than the whole of the landscape around it. I will be shot at Manatee State Park and Myaka State Park to achieve the “Ocala” feeling. I know that I went tilt/shift crazy but I enjoyed this contrast with these overgrown paths.

Proposal A1
Proposal Assignment 1
In our project “The Real Florida” I would like to show Florida's inner forests, specifically I would like to shoot in Ocala, but since I can't I will shoot state parks around the area with the same feel . I want to go with less traveled paths and waterways. This will include small rivers, dirt roads, and overgrown walking paths. Also, I will have a focus on some of plant life of inner Florida with more overgrowth and less sand. The focus of these images will be on a small object, very much in a style of Julia Margaret Cameron. I want to take advantage of the tilt shift and try to draw the viewers eyes into a small portion of the image. Other than that I will try to come up with 7 images to print, so that I can edit 2 out. I will be shooting at Manatee State Park and trying to find a few smaller parks around the area. Thanks

My first "good" print
This is an homage to my role playing days. I was a Gangrel clan vampire who had a lovely raven following her. Decided to make it into a still life and shoot my first "real" large format picture. Hope you enjoy!
